On Wednesday 30th September, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Harrier Lodge, on Thanet Way,will be hosting‘Understanding Dementia’.
The special event will be led by Dr Nori Graham, Vice President and former Chairman of the national Alzheimer's Society of England and Alzheimer's Disease International, who will share expert insight and answer questions. Itaimstobring together local people andfamilies who care for those living with dementia in the community, and anyone curious to understand more.
Guests can enjoya deliciousrange of hot food options and refreshments, specially prepared by the home’s Head Chef, meet theHarrier Lodge team and spend time learning about the resources and materials available, in a relaxed, caring setting.
Susan Simmonds, Home Manager at Harrier Lodge, said: “Dementia can sometimes make it harder for people to express themselves. As the condition progresses, it also impacts families, friends and carers, who may find themselves unsure how best to look after a loved one or feeling worried about saying the wrong thing.
“Through our ‘Understanding Dementia’ event, we want to create a welcoming space where people can ask questions, share experiences and learn practical ways to support loved ones more confidently and compassionately. By bringing the community together, we hope to break down those barriers and make dementia something people feel able to talk about, rather than something they face in silence.
“We encourage the local community to join us so that together we can build a more dementia-friendly Whitstable.”
Harrier Lodge is a purpose-built care home that has been designed to enable residents to lead active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The expert team provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 65 older people in Whitstable.
