Weymouth College's 1st Junior Chef Graduates
13th April 2010

Fourteen junior chefs have spent 10 weeks working hard in the professional kitchen at Weymouth College’s Cygnets restaurant and now are well on their way to being culinary experts. Their Saturday morning course culminated with a catering extravaganza; the junior chefs had their parents into the restaurant for lunch!  Lunch included Chicken Chasseur followed by Apple Crumble and Custard. The students were taught by Katie Reeve (pictured in chef whites).

Lunch was followed by an awards ceremony where each junior chef received a certificate signed by Weymouth College’s Principal Sue Moore and awarded by Jeremy Pope from the Daniel Symonds & Mary Anne Pope Charitable Trust. The purpose of the trust is to provide vocational training to young people to help them create their own businesses and, thus, generate other employment in the area of rural Dorset. They generously sponsored the Junior Chefs course so that the College could offer the course at a reduced rate.

Fern Rotheray is 13 and would like to do another professional cookery course: “I travelled quite far for the course but it has been well worth it. The recipes are very informal and with everything supplied it's great value for money and I would definitely do another course like this.”

The next Junior Chefs course begins on Saturday 24th April so if you would like more information then please call the college on 01305 761100 or visit www.weymouth.ac.uk
