The team at The Ocean Spa are always open to new ideas and fundraising adventures. So when Charles McCaig, a member at the spa, committed to an epic charity bike ride, they knew his challenge was something they could help with. On 14th-15th May, Charles and his team will be cycling from Weymouth to Hereford to raise money for The Royal National College for the Blind where his daughter Stefanie is a student. With the ride covering a distance of 135 miles in 2 days, this is not for the faint hearted! Verna Herry, owner and managing director of The Ocean Spa, says “As soon as I heard about the challenge I knew we could help. We’ve given the rest of the team free membership for their training period and are providing personal training sessions, nutritional advice and access to any fitness classes to help them achieve optimum fitness. The guys are training very hard and are showing great commitment to reaching their goal. We’re behind them all every step of the way.”

Having met her husband here during a visit to Portland in 2006, Verna immediately knew the area would be so much more than a home. Coming from a big family, Verna loves the close community feel of Portland and the warmth it brings. “I was instantly welcomed into the heart of the community and have made some wonderful friends. I’m very much a ‘people person’ and owning and running the spa is a dream come true. To be able to support the community and local charities is wonderful and something I feel very passionate about.”
Verna, who considers Portland her home from home, says the island is a happy reminder of her native Grenada. “Being surrounded by water and the feel of the sea air on my skin are a constant comfort, and the scenery by Fortuneswell reminds me of childhood adventures in Market Hill, St George’s.”

Verna and the team at The Ocean Spa believe everyone should indulge themselves in some time out and take pleasure in having some ‘me time’ every now and then. With regularly refreshed special offers and an exciting new treatment menu there’s something for everyone, whatever their budget.
With treatment prices starting at £8, and day passes to the spa starting at £15, there’s a huge range of both affordable and more indulgent options. Unlike other spas, treatment clients don’t need to be a member to enjoy the fabulous spa and facilities.
With a new range of weekday offers available, The Ocean Spa are ready to help everyone put a Spring in their step!
