We delayed the newsletter today for very good reason - our special visitors to the borough - The Queen and Prince Philip.

The royal couple arrived on the Royal Train before visiting the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy, the home of the 2012 Olympic sailing events.

Our very own Fiona Penny of Sunflowers in St Thomas Street, Weymouth, designed and made a stunning bouquet to be presented to the Queen. Fiona said, "I wanted to create a lovely English garden theme for Her Majesty, with luscious peonies, scented rosemary and lavender from my own garden. It was an honour to make the bouquet for her and I hope she will enjoy them."

Fiona also decorated the Sailing Academy with a number of pedestals and table top displays bearing a floral patriotic red, white and blue theme which included red anthuriums and blue delphiniums. Following the visit to the Sailing Academy the Queen and Prince Philip sailed into Weymouth on a specially chartered yacht and took a walk along the esplanade to see the 'Windsor Castle' sand castle as well as speaking to Mark Poulton with Punch and Judy before later in the day visiting the Tank Museum at Wool.
