Curves International, the world's largest fitness club franchisor, today confirmed that all 250 of its UK sites will become members of the Fitness Industry Association (FIA), with immediate effect.

The women-only chain's decision to join the FIA is a major milestone for the industry, as well as an explicit endorsement for the sector's quality (FIA Code of Practice) and health and wellbeing agendas. Commenting for Curves International, Niki Keene, Director, International Wellness said "Given the fact that excellent member service and supporting the health agenda are the cornerstones of our corporate strategy, we soon realised that as the FIA has the right connections, works closely with health partners and the Government and was instrumental in the whole Change 4 Life campaign, we would be missing out on a whole raft of national and local opportunities if we did not become members."

The FIA Club Finder, which directs consumers to reputable gyms, was also a major factor in the decision. "Our ambition is to create more opportunities for Curves to be accessible to more woman and special groups and the FIA Club Finder is an excellent catalyst for this."

Commenting for the FIA David Stalker, Chief Operating Officer said "Now that Curves is an integral part of our sector, we feel the industry's hand has been strengthened immeasurably - after all, any organisation which has over four million members and a network of 10,000 clubs in more than 60 countries has a lot to contribute in terms of both enhanced capability, as well as 'best practice' learnings.

"We are really looking forward to working closely with all 250 Curves clubs in the delivery of our summer consumer campaign (MoreAvtive4Life) and helping to raise the industry's quality bar. "
