On Thursday last week, it was time to deliver thebestof certificates to our latest members who have received 3 or more testimonials during 2008. We were also joined by the lovely Mr Kevin Sandwith of Weymouth FC who thebestof Weymouth and Portland have sponsored for the season. Kevin visited the business premises of 11 of our members with us and presented them with their well deserved certificates, including - Threadworks, Claire Whiles Nutrition and Holistic Therapy, Bridal and Ball and Outrageously Active with Boris.

On Saturday, we went to support Weymouth FC playing AFC Hornchurch in the FA Cup 4th round qualifier. I have to say I have never been so sad watching a game since England ended up taking penalties again against Germany in Europa 96!!! Weymouth scored first in about the 11th minute and it remained at 1-0 until the first minute after half time when Hornchurch equalized. After a difficult few minutes, Weymouth really fought back and to put it in girly terms!..... the ball stayed the right end of the pitch for most of the second half! And to be totally unbiased - Kevin played brilliantly and made several chances but was just unlucky. Unfortunately Hornchurch were incredibly lucky and scored again in literally the last minute with the final score 1-2. It was so sad and I now remember why I watch football matches from behind a cushion! But well done lads you played really well, especially number 3 ;o)

It would be great to see more people supporting our local team, it's also a great day for businesses to entertain. We have been fortunate to attend a number of hospitality days at Weymouth FC and you get VIP treatment from start to finish - arriving for a meal before the match with complimentary wine, then John Hollins comes and talks ahead of the match about his team and strategy for the day and answers any questions - you are then escorted to your VIP seat, under cover and right in the middle, at half time it's back to the lounge for teas and coffees and then during the second half you get to choose Man of the Match who then comes up to the lounge at the end and prizes are given and photographs taken to Match day sponsors and mascots. Whether you love or hate football - it's a great day and great hospitality while at the same time you are supporting your local Club and enjoying live sport.
