HyH: Herts young Homeless - supporting Homeless Young People in Hertfordshire

A roof over our heads, the support of a loving family and somewhere safe to come home to are all the things most of us take for granted.  But right now, hundreds of people in Hertfordshire are unable to rely on any of these as they are either homeless or at risk of being homeless.

Herts young Homeless is a unique charity in Hertfordshire which provides a number of different services to support approximately 1,700 young people each year.

The types of service we offer continually focus on preventing young people from becoming homeless – from education in schools and family mediation through to supporting young parents in their first homes and caring for those with complex mental health and substance misuse needs. Our focus is on maintaining appropriate accommodation for vulnerable young people who, without our support would end up sleeping on the streets.

Over the last year:

  • Our Advice and Information service provided  almost 2000 young people with support
  • Crashpad provided more than 1800 nights of emergency accommodation
  • The longer term Floating Support service provided 41,000 hours of support
  • Our Mediation services improved family relationships for 88% of their clients
  • The Education team prepared 3500 local young people for the realities of leaving home
  • The hyh Health service supported people of all ages with mental health and/or substance misuse problems
