Our Family Support Volunteers provide empathic and non-judgemental support to callers on a variety of issues including dealing with children’s behavioural problems, family separation, divorce, depression, bullying and abuse. Family Lives is a leading organisation in the development and delivery of support for parents and families.
A national charity, we work to recognise and value the different types of families that exist and to shape and expand the services available to them. We believe it is normal for all parents to have difficulties from time to time. Our key priority is to tackle the family problems, which parents from socially, and economically deprived backgrounds suffer. We aim to give them the practical help and guidance to resolve their problems and to see a positive future, not only for themselves but also for their children.
We now have volunteer vacancies in Hatfield, Hertfordshire. There are opportunities for weekdays, you can choose from a morning shift, afternoon or an evening shift. We also offer remote call taking shifts.
Every year, we support families across the country to work through difficult experiences such as poverty, behavioural problems, problems with services and schools, relationship stresses, communication breakdowns and countless other issues. We could not support these families without the dedication, passion and generosity of over 200 volunteers.
Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Family Lives. If you’d like to help others cope with the ups and downs of family life, we’re always looking to welcome new faces to our amazing team.
Our volunteers often tell us how rewarding their time with us is you'll be part of a compassionate community and feel a real sense of pride for what you do. You'll meet new people, gain valuable experience, and develop your skill set. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds, from someone people who are retired to someone who's children are at school and has some spare time, someone who is at University and looking for work experience, people who work however have a few hours to give in the evening. Groups of friends who are like minded often enjoy this role too as they can volunteer together. In summary anyone with a genuine desire to support from Dad's, Grandad's, Uncles, Aunts, Mum's, Grandma's, Sister to Brothers, Professionals the list goes on and on. The big thing that attracts people to us is the desire to support and help a family or individual who could be at crisis point in their lives and the satisfaction from this work that in some small way you have made a difference to a person or family's life is indescribable.
We're passionate about helping people to reach their full potential, we do not expect anyone to be expert in anything as we'll offer you full training suitable for the role, supervision from a named member of staff, including help setting personal development goals, and opportunities to increase skills and input into practice via regular Practice Development Groups.
Our training programme is excellent and will give you the opportunity to develop the skills needed to offer empathic support and guidance to callers whatever their circumstances; all shifts are overseen by a regular shift supervisor who provides ongoing support.
Our next training is taking place in Hatfield in September 2019 on Saturday's the dates are:
Saturday 14th, 21st, 28th September and October 5th
