Join us for Firm Foundations Part II: The Legacy of St Albans School of Art – the second part of a major dual-venue exhibition celebrating the 150th anniversary of the St Albans School of Art.
This landmark exhibition reflects on the School’s remarkable influence by presenting a rich array of artworks, objects, publications, video works, design concepts and archival materials stretching from the 1950s to the present day.
Among the distinguished contributors you’ll find the 2006 Turner Prize nominee Mark Titchner, celebrated painter Richard Smith CBE — who represented Britain at the Venice Biennale in the 1970s, internationally-recognised designer Domenic Lippa, and acclaimed digital creatives Nicolas Roope and Tomas Roope.
From paintings and prints, to sculpture, mixed-media, animation and digital work, the exhibition explores how generations of alumni, staff, designers, makers and creatives have carved out diverse careers. In reflecting on the institution’s wide-ranging past, the exhibition shines a light on the role that arts education plays in our society today, and offers an opportunity to consider the value of creativity in relation to our communities, histories, and identities.
