The aim of national massage day is to get people in our inhibited society thinking about the value of massage and perhaps more importantly the general value of touch in our perhaps rather 'hands off' culture. Touch is a natural part of human nature, we touch to comfort, to reassure, to heal. We have a natural inbuilt requirement from the moment we are born, to be touched and any mother will know how much calmer her baby is when held and cuddled, baby's aren't inhibited they love to be touched. So why do we treat massage and other hands on treatments as a luxury rather than a natural part of a healthy lifestyle? Because we are British,no guys get over it, go continental, start hugging and cuddling and get yourself a massage.

Gill Tree, one of the founders of one of the UKS oldest and most respected training school for massage therapists has launched a 'manifesto for a pro-touch society' with the aim of getting the UK to become more comfortable with touch and to value it's healing qualities. To celebrate touch Gill has today lead a record breaking 'massage conga' from parliament square and around London to get people out and about and massaging each other. In the words of Diana Ross 'reach out and touch someone...' .

Massage has proven to be an effective treatment for anxiety, arthritis, carper tunnel syndrome, cerebral palsy, some heart conditions, IBS, medical oedema, to mention just a few, and GPs along with other health car professionals are become owing increasingly aware of its value, but as yet lack an adequate way to 'prescribe' massage or refer a client for a massage. The department of health is currently under pressure to remedy this.

Until the NHS gets round to making massage available to all, we at Walsall MindandBody Centre offer a wide range of massage treatments from gentle relaxing and distressing massage, through to deep tissue, sports and therapeutic massage we have physiotherapists (also offering acupuncture) working as part of an integrated team, with our massage and other holistic therapists to provide excellent, quality assured therapy.

The promotion of clients wellbeing is our key aim, and for many clients that's about helping them get back on their feet and back to work. Many of our clients are able to claim back the cost of treatment at the centre if they have private medical insurance (check with your insurer to see what's covered) and in some cases insurance companies refer clients to us as part of rehabilitation following road accidents or workplace injuries.

If you think your life could benefit from being a bit more Pro-Touch, give us a call on 01922 649142 and ask to speak to Andrea Bradley the Centre Manager who can help you choose the right therapist and treatment. Or email us on info@walsallmindandbody.co.uk visit our website, follow us on Facebook or arrange to come in for an informal chat to meet the team
