With festival season officially under way, a care home in Sevenoaks is welcoming its local community for a fun-filled afternoon of food and celebration.

On Thursday 6th August, Care UK’s Weald Heights will open its doors to families and neighbours for a free food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

From 3pm–4pm at the Bourchier Close home, guests will be tasting international street food at a range of stalls, including Indian, Greek, Polish and more, tracking their journey with a food passport

The cuisine is inspired by the cultures of team members and residents, and visitors are invited to vote for their favourite dish at the end.

Resident Grahame, 85, said: “I am really looking forward to tasting the various dishes from different cultures.”

The events are part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Maria Covington, Home Manager at Weald Heights, said: “Our food festival offers a wonderful opportunity for residents to rediscover their favourite childhood traditions and recipes and share them with the local community

“Food plays an important part in all of our lives, and there’s something special about the way it can evoke happy memories and emotions. That’s why reminiscing about family recipes is so meaningful for residents here.

We’d love for the Sevenoaks community to join us, experience these much-loved dishes and celebrate the stories behind them. It’s shaping up to be a truly special day.”
