Griffithstown is named after the first station master of Pontypool and New Inn railway station.
Henry Griffiths, he founded a “temporary terminating” building society to enable construction of houses in the village to enable his workforce to become freehold owner-occupiers. He lived in the substantial St Dunstan’s house (now demolished) today the site is occupied by a nursing home and a modern house of the same name.
