If you suffer from long-term back pain and rely on strong pain killers and heat pads for momentary relief, physiotherapy can provide the permanent solution you require.

Thurrock’s Body Works Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic specialises in muscular skeletal physiotherapy and will treat the root cause of a problem whether it’s lower back pain, whiplash, or dislocation, as well as the symptoms. This means that the problem is less likely to reoccur in the future and dramatically improves the patient’s quality of life.

Physiotherapy helps to restore movement and function when someone is affected by injury or illness and where used in combination with further rehabilitation and strengthening exercises can significantly lower the chances of the problem getting worse or re-emerging.

This is why Body Works also provides regular sessions of STOTT PILATES, a contemporary rehabilitation technique drawing on traditional Pilates to improve core strength and balance the muscles around the joins, which in turn improves the way the body functions, looks and feels.

Traditionally people only sought the services of a physiotherapist when their doctor referred them however in recent years there has been an explosion in self-referral as society has learnt more about the benefits of physiotherapy in treating a variety of common muscular skeletal conditions from bad posture and head aches to back pain and sports injury.

Emma Turner, owner of the Body Works Physiotherapy & Sports Injury Clinic, based in Rectory Road, Grays, said: “We try to focus on dealing with the root cause of the problem. There’s always a reason for it happening. Once a patient is rehabilitated hopefully it will prevent reoccurrence of the symptoms.

“If someone has had low back pain long-term it may well be a leg length discrepancy, which everybody is afflicted by to some extent but some more than others. It may be they need to put a heel raise in their shoe or they could have very weak core muscles. We will treat the joint stiffness but may additionally send them for one-to-one sessions with a Pilate’s instructor to deal with that weakness.

“Resolving a muscular skeletal problem can significantly improve quality of life. We’re able to rehabilitate sports injuries as well as chronic long-term problems and will hopefully provide a full-time solution.”

Body Works has an extensive list of accreditations to professional bodies including the Health Professions Council (HPC), Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
