ADDING a conservatory to your home will boost its value by nearly £10,000, a leading banking giant has found.
According to a report published by HSBC this month, adding a conservatory to your property will add an average of £9,420. This is 14 percent than the £8,233 that was recorded in the survey a year ago.

Adding a conservatory was the only home improvement that the report highlights as being a worthwhile investment. It found that a loft conversion now added just over £16,000 to a property’s price, significantly less than the £20,000 plus that was added to the asking price a year ago. This isn’t the only home improvement that is no longer showing the same financial return. According to HSBC, a new kitchen now adds an average of just £4,577 to your property’s value – down from £5,617 a year ago. Meanwhile, a new bathroom boosts values by an average of £2,955 – down from £3,351 a year ago.
Peter Dockar, the head of mortgages at HSBC, said: “Home owners should think carefully about the type and extent of any home-improvement works they are planning. Those which enhance the quality of life while retaining broad appeal should be favoured over more individually styled alterations.”
