Isle of Man charities

Caarjyn ny Gaelgey (Friends of the Manx Language) is an Isle of Man charity created to preserve the Manx language for future generations.

They are committed to providing various creative opportunities for people to learn and use the Manx language.

They are actively involved in sponsoring several literary competitions on the Isle of Man to encourage the creation of modern Manx literature.

Caarjyn ny Gaelgey co-operates with other organisations involved in the promotion of Manx Gaelic.

THE WORK THEY DO:

Language Classes on the Isle of Man

Classes are kept small and informal and each person can learn at his/her own pace in a friendly environment. Some classes are grammar based but all encourage conversation.

Coffee Mornings on the Isle of Man

These provide opportunities for informal conversation on everyday topics between friends and fellow students. They also provide opportunities for visitors to hear the Manx language as a 'living language' and not just a language from the past.

Weekend Courses

These allow people to become more fully immersed in the Manx language in an informal setting. These courses are open to anyone who wishes to improve their Manx. Some courses are residential.
