Squirrels dig up my lawn, what can I do?

I try my best to look after my lawn, it's a hard enough battle with the elements, the ever-present moss and weeds, the pressures of time and kids running and playing all over it!!!  But I have an additional burden with my resident squirrels!

There are not many of them, probably just a couple - it is by no means an infestation! Despite them essentially being a rodent with a tail I am very fond of them and generally enjoy their presence in the garden as it is very nice to see a bit of nature and to be supporting it (I didn't even try to get rid of a town fox when I had Guinea-pigs out there....who also survived I hasten to add)

But the pesky squirrel seems to spend all day, every day, digging dozens of little holes in my carefully tended lawn! Not massive holes, just a couple of inches deep and about the diameter of a teacup, but quite a lot of them!

I have no desire to eradicate the squirrels, and I don't really want to try to move them on. So the question is this:

"Is there anything that I can do to stop them digging the holes without forcing them to go elsewhere"?
