The campaign van has been visiting communities across the county following the countywide launch last week to press home the message.

Speaking at the Cotswolds launch Councillor Ray Theodoulou, Chairman of the Road Safety Liaison Group, said: “It’s important that this message is spread to every corner of the county because it’s a lifesaver. “It’s not worth the risk of having one more pint before you get in the car. So residents are urged to find an alternative way of getting home if they are out celebrating.”

The drink driving ad-van will target areas across the county and navigate set routes that have been identified as drink drive hotspots. Posters have also been placed throughout the county at petrol stations, shops and on the roads. Gloucestershire Police has also launched a new text service so people can report anyone they suspect of drink driving.

If you suspect anyone of getting behind the wheel under the influence you can now report it to police by texting details to 07860 009095. Inspector of the Roads Policing Unit,

Jason Keates, said: “We’re out tackling this issue every day of the year but at Christmas we do see an increase in the number of drink drivers. “It’s not just about arresting people but about keeping the roads safe and by texting this number (when it’s safe to do so) or calling 999 you could be saving someone’s life.”
