GLENN Barrett is determined to break through the pain barrier to swell the coffers of Help for Heroes.

The 57-year-old suffers from a crumbling spine, but aims to walk from Berkeley Castle to Gloucester Docks.

Mr Barrett, who runs a charitable recycling project from Tewkesbury ’s Basepoint Business Centre, wants to tackle the walk in May.

He said: “It will be more than 70 miles, but I’m going to do it non-stop. I think it will take between 24 and 36 hours.

“I’m going to do it alone unless I can get some volunteers from Help for Heroes to do it with me.”

He wants to raise £1,000 for the charity, which helps British troops who have been injured in service.

Mr Barrett says he admires the charity’s work.

His late father and grandfather were injured while fighting abroad.

He said: “It’s a worthy cause and I’ve been thinking about doing this for a while.

“My grandfather was injured in World War I and my father was hurt in World War II.”

Anyone who is willing to sponsor Mr Barrett can contact him on 07562 671445.
