Staff at Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors are sponsoring stRIDE17 which has been organised by Virginia Bailey and will see the team raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society and Dementia UK.
Virginia has organised a team of 12 ladies who will be cycling and walking 450 miles across three countries in eight days.
Giles Scott, head of the private client team at Lanyon Bowdler said: “When we heard about Virginia’s fundraising we thought it was a perfect way to not only mark National Dementia Week but also raise much needed funds for the charities which do such fantastic work.
“Alongside our sponsorship of Virginia and her team we will also be organising some dementia awareness training for our staff.
“In the line of work our staff are involved in it is inevitable they will meet people who suffer with Alzheimer’s or Dementia, so it imperative they are aware of the best ways to deal with their clients and of course their families.”
Virginia and her team, supported by Unforgettable, the world’s best marketplace of products and services for dementia and memory loss, will embark on their journey during August this year in order to raise awareness and funds for the two charities.
Dementia Awareness Week runs from May 14 to 20 and the Alzheimer’s Society is asking everyone across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to “unite against dementia” by raising awareness, offering help and understanding, improve care and urgently find a cure.
Dementia is set to be the 21st century's biggest killer but charity bosses say awareness and understanding remains low and many families are facing it alone.
Giles added: “Virginia wants to help families and carers cope with the disease by raising awareness of dementia, and also raise money to help fund specialist dementia care workers, as well as research into the disease which all at Lanyon Bowdler think are vital and could result in massive changes to the lives of so many people.”
Lanyon Bowdler has sponsored the stRIDE17 team but they are still looking for help with accommodation, transport and fuel, clothing, funding for ferry crossings, food and drink and GPS systems and maps.
