Would you believe it? Officials at Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie New York said that backup generators kicked in on Tuesday afternoon when a common-variety snake got into the electrical box and disrupted the hospital's main power supply.

Hospital officials said there were no patient care disruptions caused by the power cut, which lasted from 3pm Tuesday till 1am Wednesday. Some emergency room cases had to be diverted to other hospitals though.

Whilst Squirrels and other small animals have been known to get into electrical equipment and cause power cuts, a Utility spokesman said it was the 1st time he had heard of a snake doing it!

Health and Safety, not to mention Animal Welfare Alarms would be going off in my head if I were an American in light of this!
