A car retailer in Stourbridge visited a local school for an eco-friendly storytelling session to celebrate Earth Hour on 30th March.

The team at Paul Rigby Stourbridge, on Grange Lane, visited Glynne Primary School for a special reading session of Volvo's brand-new children's book, The Day the Ocean Went Away.

The book is a result of Volvo’s partnership with award winning illustrator, Jago Silver, and features a little boy who wakes up one morning to discover the ocean has completely disappeared, and embarks on a journey to discover why.

The Day the Ocean Went Away has been created to raise awareness among younger generations about the effects of plastics in the ocean. Following the book reading, Paul Rigby Stourbridge led a discussion about tackling pollution and improving ocean sustainability.

Andy Kirkham, Sales Manager at Paul Rigby Stourbridge, said: “Hosting a reading for The Day the Ocean Went Away was a wonderful opportunity to talk to the children at Glynne Primary School about the welfare of our environment.

“Plastic is polluting the world’s oceans - but if everyone makes small changes in their day-to-day lives, we can help reduce the amount of plastic that ends up in our oceans, which is incredibly important to us here at Paul Rigby Stourbridge.

“The book is part of Volvo Car’s global initiative to fight plastic pollution and is designed to teach the next generation about the importance of ocean sustainability. We are proud to be a part of this initiative and to have sparked conversations about looking after the world we live in at Glynne Primary School.”

Jon Bennett, Deputy Head Teacher at Glynne Primary School, added: “We were delighted to be visited by Paul Rigby Stourbridge – the children really enjoyed the story telling session and asked lots of questions.

“We passionately believe that we should look after our environment, and we’d like to thank the retailer for visiting and talking about such an important subject.”

The Day the Ocean Went Away is in partnership with City Kids Surfing, a non-profit social enterprise that gives inner-city children the chance to experience the sea for the first time.

The children’s book is available to order on Amazon or via Volvocars.co.uk/UnseenOcean. All proceeds will go towards CityKidsSurfing.com.
