Girls' football is live and kicking with 'Speedy gon Charley'

A local Stamford girl, Charlotte Clarke is leading the way for girls' football. Charlotte has been awarded a place at the Bristol Football Academy. She is currently taking her A levels at Arthur Mellows Village College in Glinton, and looks forward to starting her pre-season training in Bristol at the end of July.

Charlotte has been playing football since she was nine and has developed a great passion and ability for the game. With great support from her Dad Phil, Mum Amanda, and her brother Cameron, she has played for a wide range of teams including Peterborough Azure, Rushden Diamonds, Corby Coogers, Northants under sixteen's, and Huntingdon County.

I asked her how she felt about her achievement, what were her dreams, and who was her sporting hero?
'I am thrilled to have been selected by the Bristol Football Academy', said Charlotte, 'My dream is to play for England, and as for my sporting hero well…..it must firstly be MY DAD, and then Joe Cole comes a good second'.

Charlotte currently plays full back and also loves to play centre mid-field. However with a great attitude for the sport she says ' I will play anywhere. I learned this right from the start when I wanted to play football with the boys.'

It would be great to hear about other young people with talent.
