Red Lion Square has new markets

A new market has brought some life back to Red Lion Square on Saturdays.

The original nine Saturday traders moved to the High Street whilst Red Lion Square was being 'refurbished' - and didn't want to move back. Now there are seven new stalls with a variety of crafts, costmetics, candles and food.

SKDC together with the Stamford Chamber of Trade have been working out the project to breathe new life into the square.(did anyone mention parking?)

It seems to have brought more people back to that end of town, which has become rather stale since the Red Lion Square 'revamp' - since then Stamford Chamber of Trade and Commerce has been running projects to attract people to the square, as the lack of parking has created an empty space with no footfall for the shops.

During the summer there have been artists displays on Fridays, and now the new Saturday people are asking for Fridays as well. The traders supported their Saturday pitches by paying for some colourful new awnings. "I have spoken to some of the shop owners and everyone is saying that it is what the square needed back and is bringing more people back to that end of town."

The Chamber is also behind the plan to bring the peregrine falcons into the town (see my earlier post with pic!)
