If you have a small bathroom with no room to expand, it's time for some tricks to make it look bigger.

Almost everything below can be done without any major building works:

1. Brighten it up
With a small bathroom - or any other room for that matter - one of the easiest ways to make it look larger is with bright colours and light. Darker colours seem to make all rooms look smaller.

2. Change the floor covering.
Just like the walls lighter floors make it seem larger and more open - helping to reflect light gives the impression of an open and airy space.

3. Change the vanity unit
Apart from the bath or shower, the basin unit is usually the largest item in the bathroom. Intead of keeping that big and bulky vanity unit, try replacing it with a smaller vanity or pedestal sink? This will free up wall space, giving the illusion of a larger room.

4. More Light
Additional lighting in a small bathroom makes a world of difference in how the space is perceived. Think about additional light fittings or higher watt bulbs. Although not always be possible, adding a window or skylight will make your bathroom seem so much bigger your bathroom. By making the room brighter and more inviting,it opens up the room and makes the walls seem further apart.

5. Move Your Storage Outside (the bathroom!)
If you move all of the toiletries and miscellaneous items it creates additional space and helps to declutter the room. You could put a small storage cabinet in the hall near the bathroom to put all the things in that would normally go in the bathroom. Extras and paper products can even be go in the larder/pantry.

6. Finally, Add Mirrors
Extra mirrors in the bathroom help capture all the available light and reflect it back into the room, making it brighter. More mirrors in the room adds depth, as the mirrors reflect each other and make the walls seem further away.

These simple changes to your small bathroom, can create the illusion that it's larger than it really is. Sometimes you just have to work with what you have and make the best of it.
