Festive Fun in St Neots Town at the Christmas Lights Big Switch on!

Almost 9,000 people flocked to St Neots last night (Sunday 30th December) to enjoy the Christmas Lights Switch On celebrations at the Market Square.

Festivities started at midday with live music and performances from local groups including Langdale Dance Arts and Rock Choir, before the brand new town lights were switched on at 5pm. Mayor Andrew Hansard was joined by the winners of the Christmas banner competition on stage to push the plunger alongside the May Princesses and queen. The switch on was followed by fireworks and a special fire eating show. The evening continued into the night with entertainment from local bands Alison Lane and Mojo Slide.

The Christmas market was the biggest ever with around 30 stalls included mulled wine, cakes, gifts and food to choose from. The popular live reindeer were a huge hit, appearing next to Santas grotto which helped to raise money for the St Neots museum.

Local band The Mojo Slide headlined the musical entertainment live on stage to finish off a truly memorable evening of celebrations; crowds stayed to enjoy the funfair in the town centre until 9pm.

Event Manager, Debbie King said: “We are thrilled with the success of this years Christmas Lights Switch On. There was something for everyone with shops open, the much bigger Christmas market, food, drink, reindeer, fireworks, funfair and not forgetting Father Christmas. On behalf of St Neots Town Council I would like to thank everyone who contributed to and supported the event. We would also like to show our appreciation to the people of St Neots who turned out to enjoy the celebrations, on what was a surprisingly warm day.”

I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
