St Neots U12  6 - 2  FC Comets

Sunday 12th September

Comment from the bench by Jason Thomas

We finally got the season under way on Sunday and after an initial scare, going 1-0 down, we picked up where we left off last season and strolled to a relatively comfortable victory against one of the teams I expect to be competing at the top of the division this year. Although they are one of the promoted teams they did win the league cup last season, beating BSCFC and Stevenage Borough on route and who came 2nd and 3rd behind us in the league.

Our main concern going into the season was avoiding complacency, however we needn't have worried. I thought the character showed by the whole team after going a goal behind was extremely encouraging, no panic, no moaning, just the positive attitude we have come to expect of the boys in turning the game around and continuing to play the free flowing passing football we have come to enjoy. The opposition manager was very complimentary about our performance after the game and I think they now know where the bench mark is at our level.  Once again we are not getting carried away and I keep repeating the mantra to the boys on match days "Hard work only beats skill when skill doesn't work hard!"

This week's fixture sees us take on the other promoted team from last season. Letchworth Golds, having replaced their counterparts Letchworth Whites, which I trust will be another challenging game.

Many thanks for your continued support.

I've lived in St Neots since I was 13, and boy how it's changed. I'm always looking to promote everything great in and around our town.
