Important advice for consumers who have gas flues in voids.

Many boiler installations in the last 10 years, especially new build have seen the flue from the boiler hidden behind walls and ceilings. Gas safe engineers need to be able to see the flue as part of essential safety checks whenever the boiler is worked on. A flue in poor condition, combined with a boiler that is not working properly, could put you and your family in danger from Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Gas Safe have now changed the regulations stating that all parts of the flue must be able to be inspected when carrying out a safety check of the boiler. This will involve installing inspection hatches to enable this. Consumers have untill December 31st 2012 to comply, but must have a Carbon Monoxide alarm fitted in the interim period to enable the boiler to be left working. As of 1st January 2013, gas safe engineers will turn the boiler off until inspection hatches have been fitted in the appropriate places.
