This family-run café and bar opened in December 2018, restoring the former electricity showrooms to their former glory, and serving up delicious food and tasty drinks.
Steeped in history, the building opened in 1929 as the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Huntingdonshire Electricity Company Showroom.
The grandeur of the building made a real statement with its high ceilings, oak parquet floors and large windows, helping to display the wonders of electricity and showcase why gas powered lamps were to be relegated to the past.
Fast forward to 2018 and the new owners have restored the building to its former glory, bringing it back to life for the modern world in the form of a family run café and bar. Named in honour of the owner’s grandmother, Elsie May, who always dreamt of having her own tea room one day, Elsie May’s Electric Lounge serves tasty homemade fayre and delicious drinks - all within the original features of this impressive space.
When the weather is warmer there is a fantastic outdoor seating area for customers to enjoy - perfect! Dogs are welcome too, so why not bring your pet pooch along?
Enjoy breakfast or brunch with favourites such as crumpets, porridge, croissants and breakfast sandwiches.
Lunch options range from quiche to soup, sandwiches to jacket potatoes, salad to sausage rolls. There's even a special menu for children that caters for fussiest of eaters.
Afternoon high tea including freshly baked homemade cakes and scones is also on the menu - or if you just fancy a slice of cake or a pastry there are plenty to choose from. Vegan and gluten free options are available, please contact the café for more information.
Take your fill of freshly ground speciality coffee, loose leaf tea, or even tasty milkshakes - the choice really is yours!
There's something for everyone when the café becomes a bar in the evening. With a fantastic selection of gins, craft ales, ciders, lagers, wine and so much more, you favourite tipple is just waiting for you.
And when it comes to cocktails, you'll be spoilt for choice. Tom Collins? Cuba Libra? Mojito? Or do you have a creation of your own you'd like to share? Then do let the bar staff know!
Live music nights specialising in Jazz are hosted regularly so check out the events page on their website to see what's coming up.
