On 6th August from 11.30am–3pm, Care UK’s Sway Place will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
With festival season officially under way, a care home in Sway is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.
On 6th August from 11.30am–3pm, Care UK’s Sway Place will open its doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.
Visitors to the Church Lane care home can look forward to a country and western-themed barbecue with produce and herbs straight from the home's garden which will be transformed with decorations made from recycled materials by the residents, aimed at reducing waste.
Guests are invited to pull on their cowboy boots to join in on line dancing lessons from Step n Stomp, a selfie station, and are encouraged to contribute to the fresh produce swap.
Resident Elisabeth, aged 79, said: “I'm really looking forward to the day. Food has always brought our family together, and it'll be lovely to share some of my favourite recipes and memories with everyone who visits. It's wonderful to see people of all ages coming together."
The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and share what life in a care home is really like.
Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
Francis Bosompim, Home Manager at Sway Place, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!
“We are part of a strong community here in Sway, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.
“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
