An award-winning Shropshire health and fitness club has launched a new family activity programme offering specialist classes for pre-school youngsters up to students.

The Shrewsbury Club already runs 80 group fitness classes each week and boasts top class tennis facilities, a swimming pool, a day spa and The Hub restaurant.

But now they are excited to be offering much more to families to allow them to enjoy exercising in a surpervised way at their local club.

"We're delighted to be launching a new family activity programme," said Alvin Ward, the manager of The Shrewsbury Club. "We're very family orientated and we think it's really important that we offer more for juniors.

"We have run a popular mummyfit programme for pre and post-natal mothers for some time now which enables mums to bring their new-born babies along and do exercise at the club.

"It's now about progressing that so we've launched four new age groups tied in with school years.

"We've got a pre-school programme to include activities like baby ballet together with mums and toddlers swimming sessions.

"Keystage one and two children will progress into our Explorers where we will run a whole series of programmes to get them used to group exercise, doing some sports activities and supplementing our existing tennis programme where we run the LTA approved mini-reds and mini-greens training sessions.

"We have The Tribe for Keystage three, secondary school children, where they can do functional exercises with an instructor, boot camps and spin.

"Then there is our Base for keysage four where there's a whole series of particular class programmes that are designed particularly for that age group.

"They can use the gym at weekends once they have had an induction with the gym team and providing they are accompanied by a parent. The age group is 14 and 15-year-olds while 16-year-olds can progress to a student membership if in education."

Mr Ward added family sessions designed for all the family to exercise together have also been added to the club's packed itinerary.

"We will be running some family spin sessions for the whole family in our spin studio," he said. "We'll also be running family film nights and we just see this as a great venue for the whole family to come along to and exercise.

"Families are made up in different units so it's very much priced according to who wants to use the club.

"We feel there's nowhere in Shrewsbury where there is actually a real activity focused programme for children and we're running four or five sessions a day for children across the different age groups.

"We're putting ourselves out there as a great venue for famillies to come along and enjoy various different types of exercise in a supervised way which is very family friendly."
