Cannock Chase Council is looking to beat the hat-trick of Green Flag awards from last year by entering a fourth park into this year’s competition.

Along with last year’s winners – Cannock Park, Ravenhill Park in Brereton and Castle Ring in Cannock Wood – the Council is working hard at Rugeley’s Elmore Park in Rugeley in preparation for Green Flag Award judging.

The Council’s Environmental Services Team have launched a series of improvements in Elmore Park before the visit of Green Flag judges later this month, including:

Railings, gates and park furniture is being painted

Maintenance work to the lake edges

Tree maintenance and tree planting

The toilet block, pets’ corner and bridges are being refurbished

New signs and bins for dog waste are being installed.

A number of unemployed young people have also been working on the improvement works in Elmore Park. These trainees, aged between 18 and 24, are working at the Council for six months under the Future Jobs Scheme to gain vital work experience that will help them to gain permanent employment.

Let’s hope that Rugeley’s parks and green spaces continue to see the time and financial investments that they require to keep them looking their best.
