Rochdale Remodelled

I have been walking around Rochdale a lot recently and talking to lots of people. It's impossible not to notice all the work going on and the disruption it's causing at the moment but as I was looking at the huge photos on The Butts yesterday I realized how exciting it all is really. Two types of people emerge when Rochdale is mentioned, Those who moan about the state of it and those who love it and can see the huge potential for our town with all the investment and effort that is going on. We have a real gem here, this town is great the people are fantastic, the buildings and architecture are wonderful and the new Number One Riverside which has its official opening on Saturday 27th April is a spectacular building buzzing with a vibrant atmosphere inside. it hosts our impressive new library which was full when I went for a drink in the coffee shop. There are loads of new computers to use as well as the traditional read. The new link4life leisure centre can only be a good thing, whilst we all might miss the toast at the old baths (remember that!) this new experience is great for all of us to get fit and healthy. For more memories of the old baths see Skylight Circus Event http://www.thebestof.co.uk/local/rochdale/events/feature/skylight-circus-arts The metrolink has caused a proper disturbance hasn't it. The work won't last forever though, it will be great to get a tram to and from Manchester, The last tram to Rochdale is much later than the train. It is an adventure trying to walk up Drake St at the moment, some of our best shops are up there and they will all be better off when the metrolink is finished, and we should all make a special trip to buy local and make sure these shops survive. I am very excited at the prospect of the River Roch opening, how many times have I heard it's what this town needs. Apparently one of the bridges they want to uncover dates back to the 14th century, Wow, with the funding applied for I hope it all goes to plan. There is loads happening to improve our town , something is being done and we should all be celebrating this, We choose to live here, it's great and will be even better.
