Rochdale's image is taking a turn for the better. With plans to remodel the town centre well under way this is an exciting time for the town and everyone who lives here. The extensive plans include • New shopping and leisure facilities 300 000 sq feet of them • A new bus interchange • The metro link extending into the town centre • Creating a pedestrian friendly gateway from the rive to the town centre • New entrance to The Wheatsheaf Centre on Baillie St • Baillie St to be traffic free • Improvements to buildings along Drake St • Litter bins and Information Boards along Drake St • New street plates and blue plaques recognizing the importance of Drake St • Wet Rake Gardens will have new lighting, benches, railings and the installation of a traditional red phone box. Whilst these things cannot fix the global economic problems they will certainly help to position Rochdale as a destination for shoppers and tourists and increase the revenue of local Rochdale businesses. Local people will be rewarded for their patience with a new positive image for Rochdale that we will all be proud of.
