Networking Events - Types of Networking

A major part of our activity at Anthony K Vehicle Leasing is 'Networking'. This process works for some and not others. Those that it works for see the big picture those that don't are likely missing a key part of the mindset needed to gain referrals by giving first. In his book 'Beach Money' Jordan Adler talks about 'making friends without an agenda'.

So here are the type of events I attend and why:

1) Formal, organised events:

Only join one of these to get the most benefit. Focus on being a key part of the group, bring guests and try to help your fellow members grow their businesses as a priority. Make time for one-to-ones, pick people's brains and slowly but surely a steady stream of quality referrrals will come you way. I'm a member at Rochdale BusinessforBreakfast which works well - let me know if you want to nip along

2) Informal events such as those organised by the local chamber of commerce, Curry Clubs, Speed Networking or my personal favourite Simply Networking . I also organise a monthly get together for local business owners at a local pub where I invite customers and contacts of mine to mingle with no commitment and no formalities - the next one is very soon at the Hare & Hounds, Rochdale.

The guys at the best of rochdale organize amazing meals, socials, training events as part of our membership. They really are the best of the best in this field locally.

3) Social events:

Just go to stuff, take invites from work colleagues, suppliers, customers, friends, friends of friends. You never know who you're going to bump in to whilst enjoying yourself. Utter the magic words "So what do you do for a living?" at the soft-play party and a connection will happen that could lead to some work and all you did was make conversation.

4) Giving Back: People involved in charity, good causes, sports clubs and organisations are great people to be around. Many are in business themselves and  add a great outlet for you to mingle away from work whilst doing your good deed. Lets be honest do you work hard all week to spend Saturday shopping or could you enjoy yourself more helping at the kids Rugby or Football club? You get the added bonus of a feel-good factor whilst also almost guaranteed is that someone involved will be able to help your business too!

The main focus for me is to: Go places, meet people, be interested, if you 'click' arrange a coffee and the rest may be history. You just never now where things may lead.

Don't get me wrong we do all the stuff you need to do, adverts, telephone calls, eshots and social media but they all link back to the ability to build rapport with an audience before a sale takes place.

Don't be the guy that says "networking doesn't work me". If you want some help finding out how to get more people helping your business feel free to drop me a line at robert@anthonyk.co.uk
