Prokofiev - Symphony No 1 “Classical” Nielsen - Flute Concerto Stravinsky - Pulcinella Suite Haydn - Symphony No 101 “The Clock” Daniel Hogan - Conductor Hannah Gillingham - Flute Catherine Schofield - Leader

Kew Sinfonia would love you to join us for our summer concert at St Anne's Church, Kew Green, when we will be presenting a programme exploring both classical and neo-classical styles.

Paying homage to the great Franz Josef Haydn, we will be performing his Symphony No 101, popularly known as "The Clock" due to the 2nd movement's ticking rhythm. This famous work will be complimented with Prokofiev's charming and humorous "Classical Symphony", No 1. Imagining how Haydn might have composed had he still been alive at the time, the piece is unique in its conscious attempt to revive the classical style, but with a modern twist.

The other two works in the programme are also neo-classical, in contrasting ways.  We are delighted to welcome soloist Hannah Gillingham to play Nielsen's Flute Concerto - a warm, lyrical work combining classical economy with quirky 20th century orchestration. And our final piece, Stravinsky's Pulcinella Suite, is a vibrant and witty orchestral work which draws inspiration from the "commedia dell'arte" and 18th-century Italian dance music, particularly that of Pergolesi - all treated with Stravinsky's own twists!
