Winter bloom in Richmond
9th December 2009
... Comments

Following the Borough of Richmond's success earlier on this year winning awards at London In Bloom, thoughts are turning to what we can achieve next year.

Gardeners from 2009 have recently been recognised with presentations of Certificates of Excellence by Richmond Council, as a thank you for their efforts.

Richmond had great success with the high calibre displays at pubs, schools, community buildings and gardens throughout the borough, and it was clear that a lot of local pride went into it.

I know its only a short hop to Christmas and most people aren't particularly focussed on summer gardens at the moment, but during the winter is the perfect time to start planning at least, and growing seedlings indoors (or in a heated greenhouse).

This year we won awards both for the Borough as a whole, and for individual sites and schemes in the area.

It would be fantastic to improve on this success next year, so have a think about organising projects where the whole of your street get involved, or volunteering help or donating plants to community or school projects.

There's so many imaginative projects we can get started - let us know here at The Best Of Richmond of any ideas!

Winter is an ideal lull in the gardening calendar to get planning, and there's plenty of scope for all-year planting anyway - it's a time of year often neglected (often I'm sure because it's not such nice weather to be outside in!)
