The Great River Race is taking part on 17th September and is London's River Marathon - a spectacular boat race which attracts over 300 crews from all over the globe.

Training for the Great River Race 2011 is well underway as the intrepid Richmond Chamber of Commerce team train regularly on a Thursday evening on the River Thames at Richmond Bridge.  Tim Cheers from Cheers Insurance Brokers and his team are in with strong chance of success this year and are made up of many determined stalwart members of Richmond’s Business Society.

The team is raising funds for The Victoria Foundation, a charity based in Richmond which is helping to improve many lives through the medical support it provides to those in the local and wider area.  Each team member has pledged to raise £500 which will help to improve the lives of many local residents both young and old who cannot access conventional transport.

The funds will go to The Victoria Foundation Special Wheels Appeal to help provide a much needed fully-accessible 15 seat mini-bus which will help ensure many local residents who are elderly, frail or medically infirm have the opportunity to leave their home and continue life as part of the community and disabled children and young people are able to go on educational and social outings helping to expand their horizons.

Keep up with the team and watch the event on the day - it's certainly not an event to be missed!
