Richmond to be part of the 2012 Olympics

The London Borough of Richmond has been chosen to be home to Camp South Africa for the London 2012 Olympic Pre-Games Training.

South African athletes will be based at St Mary's University College in Twickenham, and the Lensbury Hotel and Club in Teddington. The team will also use a number of top quality venues in the area.

This, my dear friends, is an ideal opportunity for Richmond to promote local businesses and ventures, and a chance to get closely involved in major international relations.

Both St Mary's and Lensbury have long standing reputations for excellence, and chief execs of both establishments are reported to be thrilled with being chosen. St Mary's has an outstanding reputation for sport, with and and current students including Rebecca Romero, Andy Baddeley, Mo Farah, Steph Twell and Simon Amor.

Lensbury is a sports club, 150 room hotel and 36 room conference centre located on 25 acres on the Thames in Teddington, Middlesex.  For additional information visit:

There's a lot of work needing to be done over the next 3 years in that case, to get all the support structures in place.

This announcement won't just benefit Richmond and surrounding areas in the run up to the 2012 Olympics, but its legacy will carry on into the future.
