Richmond Rower is an Inspiration

I was delighted to read int the Richmond and Twickenham Times this week that local man Oliver Dudley will be re-trying his record breaking attempt at rowing around the UK next year. This August's attempt with three team mates was aborted off the coast of Ireland when the team got involved in the rescue of a plane crew which had crashed into the sea.

The story captured the hearts and imaginations of the media and public around the world, and Dudley and his colleagues were hailed as heros. It also gave unexpected publicity to their chosen charity Orchid, which works to fight male cancers.

Attempting the voyage again next summer should also give Mr Dudley more time to prepare - I would have thought more than two days' notice and at least some experience of rowing was the norm!

We wish the team every luck in their second attempt, not least because they've had a taste of the physical endurance they'll need to go through again.

We also invite Oliver Dudley to keep us informed here at TheBestOf Richmond, so we can blog about their training and fundraising progress.

Good Luck!

Silas
