Prepare for the Twickenham Festival!
19th May 2011

Summer is here - you can tell it is, as it's been the first instances of rain in  more than six weeks! - and if you don't already know, Church Street doesn't hold back when celebrating and making the most of the favourable weather!

As in past years, the street is closed in the evening, Thursday to Sunday, for Al Fresco dining from 26th May to 4th September. Also, a major highlight is the Twickenham Festival (e-mail us for a brochure!) running from 10th-19th June during which there are a number of activities and events to take part in. Every year, during the Festival a Raffle is held offering a grand prize with the proceeds going to a worthy cause. This year, the prize is a Villa Holiday for 4 to Sicily for the October School Break, with the Commando Spirit Appeal as the selected good cause.

Commando Spirit aims to raise £1 million by 2014 on behalf of the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund, who support wounded; injured and returning Royal Marines and their families, and also sadly and more importantly provide grants to those whose loved ones die in service. Each year, Commando Spirit offers participants a different challenge - for more information, visit: www.commandospirit.com or to donate: www.justgiving.com/commandospirit

Raffle Tickets are on sale at major events throughout the Festival or from Crusader Travel.

To celebrate the launch of their new shop, Laverstoke Park Farm will be holding a fair on the Green (12th June). There'll be free entry all day with stalls; fairground rides; live music; live animals; BBQ Championship and much more!

Also, tickets are available from Crusader Travel for visits to JMW Turner's Villa, which will close after the festival for planned conservation works, as well as Pope's Grotto and for the annual Festival River Cruise (14th June). The cruise goes from Twickenham to Hampton Court and back - enjoy the ride and relax as you experience Wine Tasting; Jazz Entertainment and a Fish and Chip supper!

Speaking of the River Cruise, the annual Great River Race will be held on 17th September and the boss will be taking part (for the fourth year!) in a skiff not much older than he is! Our fledgling project, Destination Richmond, has had some success with accommodation offers for the event and is working on attractive Corporate Team Building and Spectator offers - please visit the website or e-mail us for more information.

Finally - something that has us all bursting with excitement is the unveiling of our first ever Taste of Twickenham event (18th-19th June). This will bring an astounding close to the festivities, showcasing the best of what Twickenham can offer in terms of food and dining as it brings together all of the area's considerable culinary excellence for you to sample. Many of the restaurants taking part will feature a special Festival Menu!

Crusader Travel also has a special festival offer - book a holiday worth over £1500 before 30th June 2011 and you will receive a £50 voucher towards a meal at Pincho's Mediterranean Tapas Bar! We also have many more interesting offers on our website

We look forward to seeing you on the street, enjoying and discovering all it has to offer!
