SPEAR is the London Borough of Richmond's leading charity working with homeless people and those vulnerably housed, with integrated services covering the full spectrum of homelessness.

SPEAR

To enable homeless people to access accommodation, and those at risk of homelessness to maintain their accommodation. To support all our service users to the point that they no longer need us.

SPEAR is the leading homelessness charity within the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames.

Founded 22 years ago SPEAR's integrated services cover the full spectrum of homelessness.

A team of 24 staff operate:

  • A 12-bed hostel
  • An outreach team
  • A tenancy support service
  • A rent deposit scheme
  • A drug and alcohol misuse team
  • An accommodation project for young people.

SPEAR does more than just provide a roof, it also helps people set up home, move on with their lives and reintegrate into society on their own terms. During 2007-2008, SPEAR helped 311 people to access accommodation, 232 of whom achieved genuine independence.

The central government's Hostel Capital Improvements Programme recently awarded SPEAR and the London Borough of Richmond nearly a million pounds to refurbish the hostel on Richmond roundabout. The work will start in the New Year and will provide new individual rooms and a training centre. This award is testament to the positive work SPEAR is undertaking in the borough.

Whilst this funding will transform the fabric of the hostel, SPEAR will still rely on the generosity of local residents to ensure that its excellent work can continue for years to come.
