With festival season officially under way, a care home in Reading is welcoming the community for a fun-filled day of food and celebration.

On Sunday 9th August, Care UK’s Abbeycrest, in Sonning Common will open it's doors to families and neighbours for a food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the home can look forward to a celebration of local culinary heritage, with local vendors being invited in to showcase a selection of tasty foods and drinks from 10.30am-2.30pm.

From savoury bites and sweet treats to refreshing drinks, guests will have the chance to sample new flavours, revisit much-loved favourites and enjoy a relaxed afternoon with friends, family and neighbours.

To bring the festival atmosphere to life, the home will also be playing their own curated playlist of folk festival music.

Sue Smart, Home Manager at Abbeycrest, said: “We’re delighted to be welcoming the local community to our very own food festival!

“We are part of a strong community here in Reading, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our shared love of food, while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.

“The day not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see all Care UK homes host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will showcase sustainable, community-focused initiatives while celebrating the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes and traditional dishes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.
