I have been staying at this Holiday Inn four or five times a year for about seven years now and I write this with a certain sense of regret.

The rooms are still clean and serviceable as they are in most Holiday Inns across the globe but a couple of factors are almost deal breakers for the business traveller.

First, as others have reported here, the free wifi service is so slow as to be almost unusable. I was driven to distraction by this on my last visit. No meaningful assistance was to be had from the staff so £5 had to be spent and, sadly, I can't recoup the cost through expenses.

Off to the bar at about 7.30 p.m. in need of a drink, despite knowing that prices here are among the highest that I have found in Preston, I found it dreary as usual but so deserted this time that no staff were to be seen. A visit to reception failed to secure assistance. Eventuallly, I stopped a members of the restaurant staff who said that she would 'find someone'. She did, an assistant manager doing her rounds apparently.

Pricing is bizarre. An offer of a bottle of house wine for £9, about what it's worth was strange when compared to the continuing price of a large glass of £6!This is hardly consistent with the government's call to hoteliers to encourage responsible drinking.

There are remaining pluses. The staff are helpful and cheerful. The experienced breakfast brigade is particularly up to the mark but, oh dear, when I was there occupancy levels were so low that breakfasts were 'made to order'. Given what I was served with, I suspect that this meant served from hot plates in the kitchen to tighten up portion control.

All such a pity.

Stayed here February 2015 for a night out in Preston.

View from room was not ideal (our room on 2nd floor looked out across a flooded flat roof (possibly the hotel restaurant's roof), and beyond that was the unsightly concrete bus station so I wouldn't stay here if trying to impress a ladyfriend etc but was ok for a place to sleep following a night out.
Not very well soundproofed which makes Preston sound like the crime and accident capital of the country as all you could hear was emergency vehicle sirens going past hotel continuously all evening.

Breakfast however was excellent value (£5 each if booked at time of booking or ordered the night before - if you buy it on the day you want it though it is substantially more so I advise paying in advance for it.)
Good selection of cereals, toast, premium jam, continental meats and cheese as well as a cooked breakfast buffet.

Hotel also allowed us to get a free late checkout of 2pm in exchange for signing up to the hotel's free loyalty program. Hotel including rooms also have free wifi, and there is a free gym (no pool) if you want to use it.

Hotel is in a good location for the city centre. Right outside main bus station and a 10 to 15 minute walk from Main Train Station.
Hotel has a small car park out front but you can also park in the bus station multi storey for free (you need to get a car park permit from the hotel reception)

From check in to check out a delightful experience.
The final night in a hotel after a long week working away from home. Having had a horrendous night the evening previous with another hotel chain, the Holiday Inn Preston restored my faith in the British hospitality industry.
From the moment I was checked in by a lovely receptionist called Jenny to check out my stay was great. The room was well appointed and clean. I ate in the restaurant and not only was the food great so was the service. The staff on duty were lovely, attentive with out being overbearing and genuinely appeared happy with their work. The two staff in question were both youngsters ( Kirsty and Lee) and provided excellent service. Breakfast had a great choice again staff pleasant and attentive. Checkout was easy and quick. A big than you to all the staff who made my visit memorable . I certainly recommend this hotel.

Great position only 3 minutes from the venue! Room excellent overall, only fly in the ointment was non functioning shower. The duty staff really tried to solve the problem. The staff were all amazingly helpful & friendly without exception. Breakfast brilliant & good value if you book it before midnight on your day of arrival. It was £10.00 for the room! Order on the following morning and you pay £12.95 per head. Will definitely be back.

Stayed here for 1 night over the weekend as my partner and I were out attending a friend's birthday party.
We arrived a little bit early but we were allowed to check in as our room was ready, the lady who checked us in was fantastic and even gave us a bit of history about the hotel! Turns out she won an award for receptionist of the year and I can tell why.

Whilst walking to our room the cleaners were still in the corridor working hard but they were polite and made sure we knew where we were going.

We were on the second floor, overlooking the flooded flat roof and the bus station. This didn't bother us though as we weren't there for the views. The room was clean, tidy and in general good condition.

Breakfast was good, could have been warmer but they were constantly bringing out fresh food so this wasn't a problem. The two ladies who were working were rushed off their feet, but still kept a smile on their face.

When we checked out the gentleman doing so didn't seem to be 100% interested and told us to just leave our room keys on the counter and that was it.

I definitely would stay here again and have been told that the rooms on the top floors are lovely, so I will ask for one of these!

Great location in the city centre next to the bus station.
Free parking in their small car park - hint is to get there early!
Didn't eat of drink at the hotel.
Great value for money though and would hapilly return.
Welcomed as a IHG card holder - even though it's a very basic card!

Stayed here whilst at a weekend event. Very pleased with the stay - decent value for money. Hotel was quiet, room was clean and modern, and all the staff we encountered very friendly and helpful. Despite being opposite the bus station the double glazing mean there was little traffic noise. Will definitely stay again.

Every member of staff we meet during the evening of Saturday 21st and morning of Sunday 22nd March were wonderful. Especially the guy on reception and Mr Barnes that served our dinner.

Very family friendly staff.

Thank you, we will definitely return if we are ever in Preston again.

Arrived to find the advertised car park quite a way away over the bus depot, then checked in after carrying my bags quite a long way to a computer glitch on check in. Other than that check in ok.
The room was ok but nothing special a little small to spread out all of my things to do a little work.
The restaurant was ok for dinner but the waiter and waitress seemed to be pushing extra drinks a I was asked once if I wanted another but to be asked a second and both times to ask if I required more alcohol was a little pushy.
The room was noisy at night, I could hear the buses quite late into the night then again early in the morning.
Also in the morning you could hear motorbikes quite plain.
The bed was made in a way that I had to pull the blankets to get them over me as the room was not warm.
Breakfast was good except for the wait to be seated there was a que of 5 deep
breakfast was good with all you would expect.
