I stayed here for one night ahead of business in nearby Blackburn the following day. Arriving late, I managed to find a space in the small car park, but feared the worst when I arrived just after a coach party of youngsters from a sports' team. However, both their check in and mine were handled very efficiently, and I was soon in my room.

My room was on the top floor and was beautifully quiet. There were a couple of small niggles about the room: sockets on the desk which were impossible to use because they had been fitted to close to the desk surface to allow for a lead underneath them, and an air conditioning unit that switched itself off after a couple of minutes. However, there were other sockets, and I was able to get the room to a comfortable temperature by switching off the radiator and opening the window!

Staff service whether at the front desk or in the restaurant during breakfast was excellent and I would be more than happy to stay here again.

There isn’t actually anything wrong with this hotel but it is a wee bit tired, and let’s be honest, probably designed and built in the 70’s.

That said, like any hotel, the staff made it what it was. And that was decent.

I found myself staying here due to bad weather and I couldn’t get home to Glasgow, and as it turned out many other guests were in the same boat. More on that later.

Check-in was quick and efficient, and I was immediately greeted and acknowledged as a gold member of the loyalty program.

The rooms are, to be honest, quite small and my desk chair back was broken. The room was clean and just about modern. Just, but a refurb would help greatly. The main issue was the noise from my windows ! The original build had flimsy metal frame single pane windows, and at some point secondary internal glazing has been added. Which didn’t fit properly, creating a gap. Now, it just so happened the wind was very strong, and very cold during my stay, and I had a great deal of freezing cold, whistling draughts in my room, and my radiator was struggling to keep the room warm. Freak weather conditions it had to be said, and the rest of the hotel wasn’t fairing much better. As I retired to the bar for a pint and some food, the receptionist had her coat on and a heater that she had brought from her home ! The staff were great, friendly, approachable and understanding. The food was so so.
The next morning at breakfast, the girl who was ticking of guests and rooms was also trying to pair various guests together who had transport issues back to Glasgow as there were no trains or buses due to the inclement weather, and hire cars in short supply. A wonderful gesture and great proactive service. The staff obviously care for their guests, I thought it was nice touch.

So, to recap, hotel not great, food so so, but top staff. I wouldn’t rush back, but it was OK for one night.

This hotel is a short taxi ride from the station. It is not the best placed of hotels for the City Centre. Although next to the bus garage and only a short walk from the shops, it felt slightly removed and I did not feel comfortable walking around the area.

The receptionist was extremely warm in her welcome and you could see she was sincere in her greeting. She was also very efficient and could not have tried harder to meet my various requests.

I paid £74 for bed and breakfast. The room was well decorated and very comfortable, with a large desk, chair, comfy chair, bed with good quality sheets and large TV with a wide range of channels. There was also a chain on the door, iron and board in the wardrobe and tea/coffee making facilities. There was no fridge and no safe, although I noticed some safety deposit boxes in reception. There is a mini-gym on the 7th floor, although I did not use it.

Breakfast was good and, again, the staff were very warm and welcoming.

I called a taxi via the hotel and, unfortunately, it was 10 minutes late.

We stayed here to strand a concert in the Guldhall. We had a meal in the bar beforehand, which was good, and the staff were very pleasant. We then went for a drink afterwards, then returned to the hotel. After 10 pm, the lift from the ground floor has to be summoned by a bell. As my partner is on crutches, we rang for the lift.
A minute later, two security guards came running down the stairs, questioning why we were there. I replied we were staying, so they returned back up the stairs, and the lift was sent down.
When I got out of the lift at reception, I was again questioned why I was there. I gave my room number, and said we would like a nightcap before bed. Off he went. This was about midnight, and no one came to serve us, so we went to bed.
The room was perfectly fine, and the rest of the staff fine, but I do not appreciate the third degree at somewhere I have paid to stay, and I don’t appreciate bad service.
I would suggest they need an entrance system operated by key cards.

I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn in Preston overnight in readiness for early meeting the following morning. The hotel was easy to find and had good parking directly outside, and in the town centre. The staff were very friendly & helpful. The room was basic, but clean and a good size. I got a decent corporate rate and paid less than £50 for a double bed. Overall very good.....

I always stay here when i am working in Preston. They are really accommodating, front desk very helpful and never say no to trying to help.

Rooms are good, as is the points system for loyalty members.

Restaurant has different “weeks” with Steak week and Pie week for example (or you can choose either bar menu or full restaurant menu - loads of choice).

Main thing that goes a long way is the staff’s attitude which is just lovely so friendly and helpful, including front desk, bar, restaurant and room service.

I have stayed at this hotel a couple of time recently and every time there is a warm welcome and I'm made to feel valued. The location is within easy walking distance of the city centre. The rooms are comfy and well equipped. The food offering is limited but all items are very tasty and reasonably priced. The only down side is the car park is tiny and there can be issues with parking if you arrive late.

city centre location but with a small car park. the rooms are what you would expect from HI - clean tidy with all mod cons. The bar & restaurant area is very large , which meant there was plenty of space but did lack atmosphere. Our bar meal was OK - burnt burger for one of us, but our bill was adjusted without us even asking. The breakfast was large scale fully cooked or continental- the cooked was constantly refreshed & was lovely & hot (not the case in some HI's) Its best attribute was the staff: very helpful , friendly, attentive & smiling , that was reception, behind the bar, the whole breakfast team - very impressive. & its the people that can make or break a hotel & in Preston they are first class .

I have stayed here several times for business trips, and have always found the members of staff extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the city centre, but is not noisy, and it has easy links to motorways. The rooms are comfortable and well appointed. The food is very good and there is plenty of it!! Breakfast provides proper porridge, which is a bonus, and the poached eggs are always perfectly cooked. The restaurant staff are top class, especially the breakfast teams. There is on site parking. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

I was really impressed by every aspect of this inexpensive hotel. Spotless room, comfy beds (including choice of soft or firm pillow!), very quiet on the 7th floor. Breakfast better than at a lot of far grander places. Properly made porridge and superb bacon from a local farm. Staff on reception and at breakfast absolutely charming - it really doesn’t feel like a chain. I guess it’s slightly odd giving it a 5 as the building affords some of the grimmest views of ring roads and car parks in Britain! But they can’t help that and I don’t think they could have done more to make my stay more pleasant. Next time I need an inexpensive chain hotel I’d definitely choose this one.
