To coincide with the opening of its new campus this autumn, Skelmersdale & Ormkirk College has announced that it will be changing its name to West Lancashire College, with effect from 1 August 2011.

The change of name emanates from a consultation exercise that sought the views of staff, students, stakeholders and the wider community, and is seen as further confirmation of many of the changes the college has gone through in recent years.

The college has become widely recognised as a provider of high quality education and training across West Lancashire and the surrounding area, and the new name is seen as a better reflection of the collge's area of operation.

The college now has over 4500 students, and through the courses at its main campuses, together with further activities in the workplace and amongst local communities, it offers a great variety of vocational and work-based qualifications. An on-going process of transformation -  most notably evidenced through the new £42.8m campus in Skelmersdale - is creating new opportunities as well as improved resources for the college's students, with new additions including Catering and Hospitality, Dance, and Digital Indistries.
