‘Cotton, Curry and Commerce’, traces the emergence of Oldham’s thriving Asian business community over the last fifty years from semi-skilled workers recruited as a temporary solution to Britain’s post war labour shortages into a major sector of Oldham’s business community.
Felt is the most ancient constructed textile in the world and has been used for everything from cosy winter garments to conceptual art. This exhibition is an exploration of the edgier side of this extraordinary and versatile material, looking at artists who create sometimes disturbing and bizarre oddities and technically brilliant objects.
