Cwmtawe Secondary School moved to its new site in Parc Ynysderw, Pontardawe, Neath, during the summer of 1996. The purpose built school now enjoys accommodation and facilities that are second to none within the local authority of Neath and the UK. The school is an 11-16 secondary school as in keeping with the policy of Neath Port Talbot Education Authority.

The school's expectations of pupils are very high as is the quality of teaching. Considerable emphasis is placed on motivating pupils to work hard, dress tidily and behave sensibly and considerately. A great deal of importance is also attached to encouraging pupils to become involved in the community life of the school, including a wide range of sporting and cultural activities. As a result, the school has over the years built up strong traditions of community and of achievements in academic, cultural and sporting fields in the local authority of Neath of which it is justly proud. Cwmtawe Secondary School adopts positive working relationships with all stakeholders. Parents and teachers work closely together for the benefit of the pupils as outlined in a Home-School Agreement Policy drawn up by the Governing Body.
