The Open University Choir's autumn concert features as its main work Mozart’s Mass in F major, which was written in 1774 when the composer was just 18. Though the piece is necessarily short to meet the requirements of his employer, the Mass is full of musical interest and invention.
The concert also includes a piece with a special connection to music in the Open University. 'Christ, the fair glory' was written for the choir by Dennis Pim in 1983 for the inauguration of the chamber organ purchased in that year by the university for its music societies. Dennis has revised the piece for this concert with the addition of a string orchestra. The organ will also be featured as a solo instrument in the programme
And with a nod to the approaching season, the concert will begin with a Christmas cantata by 17th-century composer Dietrich Buxtehude, 'Das neugeborne Kindelein'.
Admission is free and open to all. The venue is accessible and there is free parking on campus. Tickets for the concert can be reserved in advance via Eventbrite at:
