Milton Keynes Hospital Charity Raises Money to Fund Projects at Milton Keynes Hospital that are Outside the Scope of the NHS. Our Mission is to Make a Real Difference to the Experience of Patients, their Families and the Staff who Treat them.
Our fundraising enables wards and departments to go over and above what the NHS provides – funding specific, tangible items such as:
- State of the art equipment
- Comfort items for patients
- Special advanced training for members of staff
- Pilots for new patient-care initiatives
- New welcoming and positive environments for everyone treated in our hospital
This couldn't be achieved without the fantastic support of people in Milton Keynes and the surrounding areas. Fundraising makes a huge difference to the many wards and departments needing equipment and other items - and has helped change the lives of thousands of patients and their families. So thank you to everyone who has helped us make a difference in Milton Keynes.
We fundraise for all wards and departments, but you can always choose a specific area to support. We also run special appeals and projects, including fundraising for the children’s ward – Leo’s Appeal, the neonatal unit – Little Lives and work enhancing the care of people affected by cancer or dementia.
Being admitted to a hospital is especially frightening for children and young people and we want to make sure their time with us is as comfortable as possible.
Through Leo's Appeal, we want to make our wards, waiting rooms and outpatient areas even more child and family-friendly - making the best use of the areas we have by creating more attractive or bigger spaces; banishing plain walls and putting up murals and pictures to cheer patients and their families.
We would love every child admitted to have toys to play with and every parent to have a reclining chair next to their child's bed so they don't have to leave their side if they don't want to. We would also love those children who have complex needs to use toys that can stimulate them – and teenagers to have dedicated areas, too. Specifically, with your help and support the appeal will help us:
Redevelop areas which are tired and dull such as our isolation suites for vulnerable children or turning treatment spaces into fun, sensory areas
Support our play programme, to ensure every child in our care has access to a Play Specialist as well as play equipment and toys for children of all ages and abilities
Because parents matter too, enhance facilities for mums, dads and carers, visiting either as inpatients or on an outpatient basis.
Neonatal Unit cares for more than 350 babies that are born too early, too small or very ill – that’s around 1 in every 10.
Some of the babies admitted to the Neonatal Unit are born as early as 24 weeks old - or 16 weeks early. Our tiniest patients need the best start in life, and Little Lives plays a huge part in that.
Back in 2007 the hospital launched the Little Lives Appeal to raise £250,000 for an expansion of the cot area and redevelopment of the parent’s mews (where parents can stay rather than leaving baby to go home). After a superb amount of public generosity and a final big push, we completed the redevelopment in January 2012.
Donations to the Little Lives Appeal are now spent on state-of-the-art medical equipment and other items that enhance the care of our tiniest patients. It’s important we keep up to date with the latest advances; babies need careful monitoring and support with expensive equipment so that they have the best chance of recovery.
