River Nene Organic Vegboxes in Melton Mowbray won an award at their recent Annual Conference, beating over 100 other franchisees. They were awarded the Franchisee of 2008 Runner Up, for their continued commitment to Customer Service, Product Development, Sales and Support to Other Franchisees. For those of us who know James and Ruth North, owners of our local River Nene the award is very well deserved. They were in fact Runners Up in our own recent Best Family Business Award.

Franchisees for River Nene stretch from Cornwall to Newcastle and Liverpool. The model is for a series of regional farms and the support of other small regional growers to allow for local delivery. The average vegbox miles is just 2.4 miles per household - think of the positive impact on the environment if we all used River Nene for our fruit and veg! The study was carried out by Exeter University and the results can be read by clicking on the riverford environment website here. James and Ruth at river Nene not only cover the Melton area, but also as far as Loughborough, Castle Donnington , Coalville, Ashby and Burton on Trent, plus all the surrounding villages. From 28 July, River Nene will also be delivering organic meat boxes, so keep an eye on this Blog!
